Less severe aspects to the left and to the right are more typical oak-hickory matrix forest. Uphill is chestnut oak/ericad with white pine;This a dry, steep ridge spit with a woodland community with Pinus virginiana and oaks (Quercus rubra, prinus, stellata) with Vaccinium stamineum, Carex pennsylvanica, and Lespedeza prominent in the understory. The community resembles shale barrens of the Ridge and Valley, but there don't seem to be any endemics. Sawn juniper stumps and one old knarly juniper still standing
Representativeness
Plot is most of a small patch on the hottest aspect of the river bluff shoulder. This community type repeats in additional small patches but this is the biggest seen as we traveled in.
